Onion fritters|pyaaz ke pakode

      Onion fritters or pyaaz ke pakode are the most common appetizers in any Indian household.... The most wanted snack for a rainy day with a cup of tea.... just heavenly.
       There are various versions of pakodas... A variety of ingredients can be added and substituted in different pakodas. Onion fritters are usually made with chickpea flour/besan for binding. The spice levels can be adjusted according to personal tolerance. But spicier the better
... as i am writing the post my mouth is just watering...

Ingredients:

  • 2 onions, sliced into thin rings
  • 2 green chillies, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp Red chilli powder
  • 2 tbsp Coriander leaves, finely chopped
  • 3 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds, crushed in a mortal
  • 7 tbsp Chickpea flour/besan
  • Salt as desired
  • Oil for deep frying
  • Water as required

Method:

  1. To prepare Onion fritters, in a bowl add the sliced onions, green chillies, red chilli powder, coriander leaves, lemon juice and ground cumin.
  2. Stir in the chickpea flour and salt into the mixture. Add water and mix well. The batter should not be runny or very thick. It should be able to hold the spoon while pouring for frying(see pic).
  3. Heat oil in a pan(its hot enough when you pour a pea sized batter and it immediately comes up). Take small balls of the onion mixture with a teaspoon and fry in hot oil,few at a time,until golden. 
  4. Drain on absorbent kitchen paper and serve immediately with garlic-tomato ketchup or green chutney.
